NEW DELHI: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has slashed the STD rates from Rs 2.40 to Re 1 for the subscribers in the general category.

To add more value to the scheme it further slashed the monthly rental from Rs 225 to Rs 180and increased the number of free calls from 25 to 50 per month.

With this reduction, about 1.16 crore customers under BSNL Plan 180 would automatically start getting benefits of BSNL One India landline Plan. A.K. Sinha, CMD, BSNL, said that the rates have been slashed to attract more subscribers for the landline connection.

“It will also help in arresting surrender of landline connections across the country. With this we are expecting increase of 50 per cent in STD traffic,” Sinha said.

Currently, the BSNL OneIndia scheme subscribers account 1.14 per cent of the total 3.5 crore subscribers.

The local call PCO pulse duration has been enhanced to 60 sec from the present 45 sec. The calls will be of Re 1 per minute. With this the customers will enjoy a savings of 25 per cent on calls. The minimum guarantee in the urban areas has also been reduced from Rs 500 to Rs 300.

The PSU has also announced to have joined hands with Nokia and Motorola. Under this offering, customers will get benefit on purchasing the selected handset of the two handset manufactures on market price along with a pre-paid Excel connection.
