CHENNAI: India is expected to take part in the Asia-America submarine cable system.

Talking to CyberMedia News on the sidelines of Connect-2006 in Chennai, A K Sinha, CMD of the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) said that India would participate on the futuristic project of the Asia-America Gateway through a submarine cable system.

“The project will entail connecting Malaysia and US covering approximately 25,000 kilometers. The system is expected from the first quarter of 2009,” he informed.

Through this cable, India and Malaysia can be connected through existing fiber optic systems.

“Further, this will enable India to strengthen connectivity to the rest of the world on the Pacific route,” Sinha added.
