CHENNAI: Nokia Telecom SEZ would be fully operational by next year- end, according to Nokia's director of Operations, Jukka Lehtela.

Talking to CyberMedia News here on the sidelines of Connect 2006, Lehtela said that all the eight suppliers would set-up their operations in the SEZ at Sriperumbudur.

“We will be fully operational and also our suppliers will be commencing their operations by end next year,” he said, adding that the Park would have a capacity to employ 20,000 people by 2008.

He said that the Government should concentrate on improving infrastructure, as 40, 000 to 60, 000 employees would be employed in the neighbouring areas.

“The Government should improve the road and rail facilities. As well there should also be projects to bring in other facilities such as school, hospital to meet the demands of the growing population in that area, as we think it is not our responsibility,” he said.

Lehtela also said that Nokia had started to export to eight countries and was ahead of its schedule.
