CHENNAI: In what may seem as the first ever major investment in the State of Tamil Nadu, Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group has announced a major investment of Rs 2000 crores, which would be over and above the Rs 10, 000 crores for setting-up a multi-product SEZ in the State.

Announcing this after meeting the State chief minister, M Karunanidhi at his residence in Chennai, Anil Ambani, chairman of the ADA Group said that Rs 2, 000 crores would be used to set-up an Information Technology Park and a world-class convention center.

“People now look at Tamil Nadu and Chennai as the IT destination of India. We look forward to working with the State Government to progress our thoughts further,” he told the media, on the proposed IT Park, after meeting the chief minister.

Union minister of Communications and IT, Dayanidhi Maran said Anil Ambani wanted to meet the Chief Minister to outline the investment plans of ADA Group.

Provide 'Info-structure' to empower

Later, participating in Connect 2006, Ambani said Tamil Nadu showed signs of becoming the leader and catalyzing the growth in the field of Information and Communication Technology.

“The stress should be now to provide info-structure and I am sure that this would empower the people, by providing them with information and connectivity,” he said adding that India was now on the threshold of a major communication revolution.
