CHENNAI: In what may seem as the first ever major investment in the State of
Tamil Nadu, Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group has announced a major investment of Rs
2000 crores, which would be over and above the Rs 10, 000 crores for setting-up
a multi-product SEZ in the State.
Announcing this after meeting the State chief minister, M Karunanidhi at his
residence in Chennai, Anil Ambani, chairman of the ADA Group said that Rs 2, 000
crores would be used to set-up an Information Technology Park and a world-class
convention center.
“People now look at Tamil Nadu and Chennai as the IT destination of India.
We look forward to working with the State Government to progress our thoughts
further,” he told the media, on the proposed IT Park, after meeting the chief
minister.
Union minister of Communications and IT, Dayanidhi Maran said Anil Ambani
wanted to meet the Chief Minister to outline the investment plans of ADA Group.
Provide 'Info-structure' to empower
Later, participating in Connect 2006, Ambani said Tamil Nadu showed signs of
becoming the leader and catalyzing the growth in the field of Information and
Communication Technology.
“The stress should be now to provide info-structure and I am sure that this
would empower the people, by providing them with information and
connectivity,” he said adding that India was now on the threshold of a major
communication revolution.
