Wednesday, 15 September 2004, Bangalore: In what Ranganath Salgame termed as his first press meet yesterday as president (India and Saarc) of Cisco Systems, at least five empowered office bearers were announced. Four of them head the newly formed business verticals groups, namely IT services, enterprises, service providers, and government. Another appointment is for Cisco Capital, the network vendor's newly formed leasing arm.
More newsy, however, is the fact that Salgame himself is relocating to Bangalore. This is for the first time in Cisco's 10-year long presence in India that its country's head will be stationed at the garden city. Both Anil Batra and Manoj Chugh, Salgame's predecessors, were based at Delhi.
The new appointees are: Sudhir Narang, senior V-P, service provider and government verticals; B Ashok, senior V-P, IT services; Jango Dalal, senior V-P, enterprise business; and Dheeraj Mehta, head, Cisco Capital.
Quoting V&D100 figures, Salgame pointed out that Cisco achieved a stronger-than-the-industry growth last year and would continue to repeat the performance. He was optimistic that the reorganization along new business verticals will provide an effective strategic roadmap.
Salgame also expressed hope that service providers' bet on 'triple play' [voice, video, and data] will favor Cisco in the long run, as it will bring more and more traffic to IP networks.
