Kisan Call Centres received 436,257 calls till the end of July. The scheme has been functioning since 21 January 2004. These call centers can be accessed toll free by dialing 1551. The calls are received at Mumbai, Kanpur, Indore, Bangalore, Kochi, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkota, and Chennai where graduates in agriculture answer the queries in a local language. If more specialized advice is required, the calls are transferred to experts located in agriculture universities and organizations.
