Another Step Towards Broadbanding India

A roundtable conference to discuss ways of promoting broadband penetration in India was held in Delhi on 29 June 2004. It discussed the roles which could be played by service providers and equipment vendors for promoting broadband access in the country. The panelists at the conference were Dr Govind, Amitabh Singhal, Vinnie Mehta, Ibrahim Ahmad, and Jasjit Sawhney.

Dr Govind is a director in the department of IT in the Government of India. He looks after projects involving the Internet and broadband related technology applications. Amitabh Singhal is president ISPAI and represents his association on industry forums like FICCI and CII as well as the group on telecom and IT which is headed by the finance minister. Vinnie Mehta is now the executive director of MAIT and he has worked with many state governments in settling their IT policies. Ibrahim Ahmad is editor of Dataquest, India's leading magazine in IT. Jasjit Singh is the founder and CEO of Net4India.
