HCL InfiNet Launches Internet phones
Thursday, September 05, 2002

HCL InfiNet, the Internet subsidiary of HCL Infosystems, an information enabling company, has announced the launch of a range of Internet telephony devices into the Indian market. Aptly called Yap (Your Alternative Phone) Phone and Yap Jack Plus, these devices are exclusively designed for voice calling and will remove the bottlenecks in Internet telephony such as voice breaking due to network congestion, etc.

Catering to the retail segment, HCL InfiNet has launched these two models of Internet calling devices, the Yap Phone and the Yap Jack Plus, mainly to facilitate individuals, SMEs, SOHOs and exporters.

The Internet phone devices are being offered as part of an attractive bundle to suit customer needs and budgets. YAP Phone is Net2Phone's line of hardware solutions that allows the caller to easily place low cost Internet Phone calls with maximum clarity and compatibility. By using Yap Phone, calls can be placed from a PC or phone and routed over the Internet by HCL InfiNet Managed IP Network. Since the calls bypass much of the traditional phone network, HCL InfiNet together with Net2Phone, can provide incredibly low rates for the millions of calls delivered worldwide. The Yap Phone bundle comes at a price of Rs 1665, plus taxes. The bundle includes a Rs 750-valufon card, 50 hours of usage time and a free dialer CD with various software games and utility. The product can also be bought at a stand-alone price of Rs 1175, plus local taxes. The Yap Jack plus offers an in-built modem and allows dial-up Internet users to make low cost international phone calls without using a PC. The Yap Jack Plus too comes with the option of being bought as part of a bundle or a stand-alone product. The bundle costs Rs 10,350, plus taxes and includes a Rs 750 valufon card, 100 usage hours and a free dialer CD with various software, games and utility. The product can also be purchased at a stand-alone price of Rs 9803, excluding taxes. HCL InfiNet is also launching a range of Internet calling devices for the corporate sector. These would include various products called IP Phone, Max 4, Max 8, Max 8 plus and Max 8/16. These devices will be accessed through HCL InfiNet's managed service called VoiceNet, which provides a customer an assured bandwidth for placing a call.
