Tata Infotech did business worth Rs 40 crore in the area of networking and communications as compared to Rs 16 crore in 1998-99. It had a growth rate of 150 percent. The company is focussing on the finance and carrier segments. A major chunk of its revenue came from these two segments put together, followed by the ISP segment.

Tata Infotech has set up ISP infrastructure for Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Kerala circle. The other major telecom order was Indian Railway’s order for WAN backbone across 23 locations for Railways Freight Operation Information System and RAILNET Phase II. In the financial sector, it bagged an order to integrate 228 branches of Union Bank of India through a mesh 64 Kbps leased-line WAN over a period of five years. Another major order was from the Syndicate Bank. It has also done some projects for the Defence sector, where the networking projects have become prominent after the Kargil war.

It offers expertise in the fields of Internet and videoconferencing, and total systems integrated solution for the telecom segment.

Tata Infotech has moved on to high-end solutions, outsourcing LAN requirements and plans to focus on services. It has also formed separate technology group on network security to develop customized solutions. The future plans include focus on call centres, e-commerce, ISPs, and enterprise network management.
