This was a year of exploring newer areas for Satyam Computer Services Ltd. The company has primarily been in the area of software solutions and services. But the last year witnessed a decent growth for it in the area of telecom and digital communications.

Out of the total sales revenues of the company for the last fiscal, the telecom and digital communication segments accounted for 11.2 percent. Converted in figures, this amounted for revenues worth Rs 48.7 crore. In fact, the company witnessed a significant change in its technology mix. While the Y2K revenues contributed only 5.2 percent, legacy projects contributed 21.4 percent, and open systems and client server accounted for 28.8 percent. It increased it focus on special services like ERP solution, telecom and datacom, and Internet and e-commerce projects. The Internet and e-commerce projects fetched it Rs 118 crore. The telecom, datacom, Internet, and e-commerce generated Rs 194 crore for it. And the total solutions made up for 25 percent of the revenues.

The company, as focus for the future, plans to consolidate its telecom business and has made significant investments in
embedded systems, e-commerce, mobile Internet applications, and call centres. The mobile commerce is expected to take off
in a significant way this year. And the company’s initiatives will yield riper fruits for it. And as part of that strategy, it would be focusing on quality and upgradation of its communication infrastructure.
