RPG
Paging, part of Rs 6,400 crore RPG Group, recorded a growth of 10.32 percent in
its turnover over the previous year. It increased from Rs 25.2 crore in the
previous fiscal to Rs 27.8 crore in 1999-00. On the subscriber front, it was a
bad year for RPG as this base came down from 1,23,000 in 1998-99 to 74,123 in
last fiscal.

The company operates paging services in Delhi, Ahmedabad, and
Chennai. It has a majority stake of 51 percent while the rest is held by
Japan-based NTT of Japan, ITOCHU and Star Paging India Ltd of Hong Kong. The
paging infrastructure equipment has been sourced from Tandem Computers of the
US, Alcatel of France, and Glenayre of Canada.
It has a tie-up with Pagepoint Service for providing roaming
facilities on their network for its subscribers. Called "RPG Follow
Me", a subscriber can get the message forwarded from the city of residence
to the visiting city. Subscribers have to inform the operator of their travel
plan in advance to avail of this facility. MTNL linesmen also avail of RPG
services in and around Delhi.
The company is presently concentrating on big corporates besides exploring
alternative revenue streams. It handles calls for several multinational
companies. The company plans to leverage on augmented value-added services. It
claims its Astroplus services, where it offers personalized astrological
predictions for its subscribers, to be a major hit.
