The
datacom division of Ramco Systems has positioned itself as an entity that
networks applications and not hardware. Its revenues from the networking
business grew from Rs 32 crore the previous year to Rs 81.62 crore, a growth of
155 percent. The biggest order has been the BSE order for online networking.

While a major portion of its revenue in 1998-99 came from
structured cabling solutions (Rs 13 crore), the last fiscal was a year of
switches for Ramco. Its growth was lead by switches and routers, which accounted
for Rs 33.60 crore and Rs 17.45 crore respectively. Structured cabling brought
in revenues of Rs 20 crore. The rest came from services (Rs 2.25 crore), network
security (Rs 5 crore), and hubs (Rs 3.32 crore).
The biggest success has been in the network security area. It
has bagged some major orders from the ISPs already. Its focus would be on ISPs,
software houses, banking, and the Defence sectors. It will help them in creating
and implementing a security policy.
It is an expert in relationship management too. It has tie-ups with Internet
Security Systems for adaptive security management solutions, Check Point for
firewalls, Trend Micro for anti-virus and content security solutions, and Nortel
Networks for LAN/WAN solutions, and AMP for structured cabling. And proof of its
abilities and reliability is that it has been recognized as the premium partner
to Nortel.
