This
flagship of Surana Group is primarily into manufacturing copper rods, SEC wires,
and JFTCs. Surana Group holds 71.75 percent equity in the company, which has
five operational industrial divisions. It is the fourth largest telecom cable
manufacturer company in the country. The company believes that with a 20 percent
growth rate in telecom, there is a demand of 300 lckm of JFTCs in the country.
Last year, the JFTC sales in the country averaged a 17 percent growth. And to
meet a part of this demand, this division was set up in 1992 with
state-of-the-art technology and advanced manufacturing/testing facilities with a
capacity of 26 lckm in wide range of products from 10 pairs to 2,400 pairs.
Bhagyanagar Metals also operates a plant for captive production of polythene,
raw materials for sheathing and jacketing of cables. The plant has an annual
capacity of 10,000 tons.
The bulk of the revenues for the company come from JFTCs. In 1999-00, it is
estimated to have done total sales of Rs 157.5 crore. This was 29.2 percent
higher than the previous year’s turnover of Rs 121.9 crore. This was slightly
higher than the 27 percent growth in the cable industry. The company earned a
net profit of Rs 7.3 crore during the past fiscal registering a 92 percent
growth in profits. DoT, MTNL, and Indian Railways were its prime clients.
