This well-known player in the telecom instruments space could grow only
marginally in fiscal 2001–02, at around 1.66 percent, to remain content with a
turnover of Rs 161 crore. In unit terms, the company sold around 3.8 million
telephones and feature phones, up from 3.6 million in the fiscal 2000-01.
Bharti Teletech supplied 2.5 million phones to BSNL and MTNL. It sold 1
million telephones in the open market. The company also exported around 300,000
instruments to countries like Mauritius, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Korea, Latin
America, and Sri Lanka.
Bharti Teletech has two other subsidiaries under its fold—Bharti Systel and
Goa Telecommunications. The production units are located in Ludhiana, with a
manufacturing capacity of 1.5 million; in Gurgaon with a capacity of 2 million,
and in Goa with a capacity of 1.5 million. These production units have a
combined capacity of 5 million telephones annually.
The distribution channel consists of over 135 distributors and 5,000 dealers.
In the coming fiscal, the company is planning to be more aggressive on the
distributor and dealer network fronts.
