Given the rough economic weather worldwide, sail was smooth

It was not a year of growth for TCIL, mainly because most of its clients are located overseas and the global economic conditions made them cautious. As a result, TCIL registered a marginal negative growth of 2.5 percent, netting a turnover of Rs 750 crore (unaudited figures). However, the profit moved up by Rs 6 crore and it is estimated to be around Rs 66 crore.

Operational in 52 to 53 countries, TCIL is planning to make a headway in Zambia, Burkina Faso, Congo, and Sudan, in the FY 2002. The company made a headway in Afghanistan, by setting up a training center along with the ministry of external affairs. In the fiscal 2001-02, the company has provided IT and telecom support to the UN operations, doing a business of around Rs 100 crore. TCIL has also done well in Mauritius, by bagging access and SDH order worth Rs 100 crore. Repeat orders were also bagged from Kuwait, Nigeria, and Ghana.
