In the FY 2001-02, Lucent India was unable to repeat the previous growth rate and posted a negative growth rate of around 11 percent, with a turnover of Rs 750 crore.

Lucent crossed 2 million lines of installed base of switches in the country, during the fiscal 2001-02. The company is very strong in the government sector and has bagged switching orders from BSNL worth Rs 190 crore, BSNL rural (WLL) order for fixed wireless terminal and infrastructure worth Rs 150 crore, and GSM order from MTNL worth Rs 60 crore.

On the private operators front too, the company has done pretty well and has bagged good orders from Hughes Tele.com and Tata Teleservices. For Hughes Tele.com, the company sold broadband products for ADSL and ISP operations worth Rs 100 crore and in Tata Teleservices, Lucent invested Rs 100 crore. Some of the orders bagged during the period include 0.5 million switches from BSNL and turnkey project for BSNL’s GSM project for western states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.
