the states of Maharashtra and Goa, has reported a total turnover of Rs 67.01
crore the last fiscal. The net call revenue stood at Rs 63.81 crore.

Currently, Hughes Tele.com is building the country’s first
broadband telephone network and plans to offer its business customers services
initially in Mumbai and Pune by the second quarter of 2000. The network wilI be
expanded throughout Maharashtra and Goa over the next three years and the
project cost is expected to be around Rs 3,600 crore. The company has over
22,000 lines in service and plans to roll out over 2,20,000 lines over next two
years. It expects to have over 50 lakh lines in the next 15 years. Hughes is set
to offer broadband wired and wireless services including last mile optical fibre
and is positioning itself as a single platform for all
communication needs.
The company is planning to be the first private telecom
services company to go for IPO in the country. It will also to be one of the
biggest infrastructure issues which will be worth Rs 891 crore.
The lions’ share of the company’s revenues came from PCOs with an average
revenue per line of Rs 8,200 to Rs 9,900 per month. Hughes currently has 3,500
PCOs, for which it has a partnership with Zip Telecom. It also plans to
establish itself as a major ISP in the country and to develop itself into an
Application Service Provider (ASP) for business customers.
