Yes, one positive development happened. A development that should have taken
place at least five years ago. Finally, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, went ahead
with its plans of connecting towns and villages through wireless in local loop.
Though it is too late, one only hopes, it does not end up being too little.

To summarize, the industry has performed well, but has done little to sustain
the good performance, the biggest gap being in new technology deployment. That
could be killing. As McLuhan put it, "Our age of anxiety is, in great part,
the result of trying to do today’s jobs with yesterday’s tools."
And none of us want that. We have had enough.
Let the year 2001-02 be the year of new technologies.
