"Players will continue to invest on enhancing their services and deliver VAS"

In last couple of years, telecom software companies based in India have done pretty well outside India. How has TCS performed in the telecom space?
Telecom is a very important vertical within TCS and it comes after BFSI and manufacturing. In terms of vertical-wise breakup, telecom has contributed around 16.4 percent of our total revenue.

Convergence and acquisitions have been the prime focus in telecom space. What, according to you, are the visible trends in telecom?
The demand for telecom services propelled software growth in this segment and this is not limited to basic telephony or mobile telephony but it is across all sectors in telecom. Software solutions and services to enable enterprise application integration and convergence of services (including retail and wholesale), and enterprise movement to next-generation networks have dominated telecom software.

Players will continue to invest on enhancing their services and deliver value-added services. With the advent of 3G services, spending on telecom software is likely to go up.

Which were some of the projects bagged by TCS in FY 2004–05?
We have been working on consulting, integration and application development, and outsourcing engagements for clients in multiple geographies. We are providing revenue assurance services to a leading telecom service provider of the world. We are also working with two leading telecom service providers in the US for process consulting and we are also with a North American provider in the area of customer service solutions.

Having done pretty well in FY 2004–05 how is TCS geared up for FY 2005–06?
We will continue to enrich our offerings in the areas of consulting, integration, and outsourcing to address the emerging areas of interest for our customers. Business transformation and system rationalization to fully exploit the NGN potential and portal strategies to enhance customer experience helps in increasing revenue and reducing costs for telecom service providers.

The solutions we are providing in partnership with others, such as Microsoft Connected Services Framework, helps our customers to speed up the time to market for new services, reduce deployment and ongoing operational costs, and recognize operational efficiencies. And all this will help in moving at a fast pace.

What is the business roadmap for TCS in the telecom world?
TCS's offerings span the entire telecom spectrum, with proprietary tools and methodologies, coupled with pioneering onsite and offshore delivery mechanisms that provide complete solutions. We will utilize our unique and holistic understanding of the telecom domain to offer services suited to every stage of the business lifecycle of customers.
