V&D Estimates

CyberMedia Research

Country’s largest telecom-manufacturing monolith did not have a great year as it slid to the No 2 slot in the V&D100 Top 10 equipment vendors rankings. While revenues declined by about 25 percent, ITI made significant inroads in turnkey projects and new technology areas. The company’s total revenue in FY 2002-03 was Rs 1,729.84 crore.

A key reason for the drop in topline was late receipt of orders. Several tenders from its prime customers BSNL and MTNL have not been opened. Experts feel that ITI’s slide was also due to the fact that the company did not have a fulltime CMD, but only acting heads for almost a year. The new CMD took charge only at the fag end of the financial year.

Despite this, the company surged ahead with some bold initiatives focussing on new areas and turnkey projects. The company is emerging as a total solutions provider. During the year, its total turnkey business accounted for 50 percent of its business, while the rest came from products. The business from equipment sales was close to Rs 705 crore, while that from turnkey projects was Rs 806 crore.

CMD : YK Pandey
Area of Operation : Telecom equipment, Manufacturing, Turnkey Projects
Address : ITI House, 45/1 Magrath Road, Bangalore - 560 025
Tel : 080-5366116
Fax : 080-5593188

Forging strong relations, the company is slowly moving ahead. It has tied up Tellabs for MLLN solutions, Midas for CorDECT, LG and ZTE for CDMA among other alliances.

The focus would be on acquisition of new technologies that would rejuvenate the production activity which is the core competency, ensuring supplies without any delays, efficient execution of turnkey projects, and speeding up of pending projects. Plans are to target the non-DoT business like the Railways and Defence too. One needs to see how it can manage its huge manpower, which is close to 19,000, successfully. The new CMD looks upbeat and has laid out a future roadmap.
