HECL, the number one VSAT service provider, is transforming into a
value-added service provider by providing integrated services to corporates. The
company has got a category ‘A’ ISP license, and is planning to provide
Internet access and several other value-added solutions to its customers.
Growing at a rate of around 35 percent, the company has a turnover of Rs 140
crore. In the previous fiscal, the company bagged major orders for Aditya Birla
and BSE. For Aditya Birla, the company is setting up an Information Highway for
350 sites connecting twenty-seven companies of the Group, of which 60 percent
are operational.
The much-hyped Skumars.com’s e-services network for 50,000 VSATs, to be
deployed across India, could not take-off due to policy related hurdles. This
year one can see some deployment of VSATs in Skumars network. For BSE, the
company installed an 11-meter VSAT hub.
With distance learning market opening up for VSAT service providers, the
company is focusing on being a complete education service provider. Recently,
HECL has tied up with IIM-K to offer interactive distance learning courses.
Additionally, HECL is gearing up for introducing the DirectPC platform for
broadband Internet delivery.
To latch on to the opportunities in Ku-band, the company has made an
investment of Rs 60 crore in Ku-band hub.
