SWOT

STRENGTH
  • Strong PSU client base

WEAKNESS

  • PSU attitude

OPPORTUNITY

  • Turnkey solutions

THREAT

  • Software giants

The total turnover of Punjab communications stood at Rs 147.10 crore. The company earned a net profit of 4.78 crore. Punjab Communications, which started as a wholly owned subsidiary of Electronics Corp. of Punjab in 1981 for manufacturing telecom equipment, later on diversified into software and turnkey. The company went public in 1994, diluting 26 percent of its equity. The company’s net worth is now estimated to be around Rs 180 crore. Punjab Communications has a significant installed base of telecom solutions in India. It has a client base that covers almost every major industrial and infrastructure segment in the country. Even though its software client base includes a number of big names like Oracle, its public sector companies are the mainstay of the company’s business. These include PSUs like ONGC, IOC, SAIL, GAIL, NTPC and BHEL besides DoT, VSNL and MTNL. The company has successfully executed turnkey projects for Southern Railways, Western Railways, and GAIL. The company’s manufacturing and software development facilities located near Chandigarh is one of the best in the country. Boston-based NRI venture capitalist firm Dhunn-Carr is considering for facilities for prototyping and mass production of hi-tech electronic boards and equipment for companies being funded by it in the US. For this, the choice seems to have narrowed down to Punjab Communications.
