Arun Sobti graduated from Punjab Engineering College and moved to US in 1967
for masters in electrical engineering from University of Kansas. He also did his
PhD there and is currently in the board of University of Kansas. A renowned
personality in the communications infrastructure industry, Sobti holds 18
patents and has served on a variety of industry standards committees. A
visionary, Sobti has a well deserved reputation as an innovator who gets results
and has worked for 3G, broadband, and communications infrastructure.
The
promise of IP telephony helped Sobti to join IP Unity, an emerging leader in
voice infrastructure products as its chairman and CEO in 2000. With Sobti at the
helm, the company has gone from strength to strength. In January 2002, the
company announced its Harmony 6000 Media Server which forms the core of IP Unity’s
application services platform, and allows carriers to quickly and cost
effectively offer revenue generating services.
Prior to joining IP Unity, he was senior vice president of ADC and president
of ADC’s Broadband Access and Transport Group (BATG) whose revenue was to the
tune of US $1 billion in 2000. Under his leadership, ADC purchased Pairgain
Technologies and Broadband Access Systems, the company’s largest acquisition
to date. Before ADC, Sobti was at Motorola for 24 years and led Motorola’s
efforts towards participation in the third-generation wireless technology. He
serves on the boards of Onotologent Networks, Black Storm Networks, Many Streams
Networks, and others. n Page(s) 1
