 His
mission, in his own words, is "to make sure that the core wireless business
stays focused and gets its fair share of growth." Gyani was appointed as
CEO of AT&T wireless in March 2002. He is a telecom and wireless industry
veteran and former CFO of AirTouch Communications. He was also chief financial
officer of Wireless Services Group, and executive vice president and CFO of
AirTouch Communications. Gyani played a key role in the $120-billion merger of
AirTouch and Vodafone and the subsequent $70 billion joint venture with
Bell Atlantic. He also played key roles in the $1.6 billion IPO of AirTouch in
1993. He was instrumental in the hugely successful $10.6 billion IPO of AT&T
Wireless in 2000. He is on the board of directors of Cellular Telecommunications
and Internet Association, GSM Association and Keynote Systems. n
