D Agrawal is a distinguished member of technical staff at Agere Systems, Murray
Hill, New Jersey, and a visiting professor at Rutgers University, New Brunswick,
New Jersey. Since 1978, he has worked at Bell Labs (AT&T, Lucent) until 2001
when the microelectronic business unit of Lucent became a new company named
Agere Systems. Agrawal is a world-renowned authority on electronic testing. He
has published over 250 papers and five books, including the recent text-book
(co-authored with ML Bushnell), "Essentials of Electronic Testing for
Digital, Memory and Mixed-Signal VLSI Circuits." He holds thirteen US
patents. In 1986, the IEEE elected him a Fellow for his contributions to
"probabilistic testing of integrated circuits." Currently, Agrawal
belongs to the SOC Design and DFT Group at Agere Systems (a spun off group from
the Bell Labs) and teaches at Rutgers University. He is a co-principal
investigator for two National Science Foundation research grants, totaling
$645,000, at Rutgers on low-power design and spectral testing methods. He has
directed or co-directed research, often as an examiner or unofficial advisor,
for 14 PhD candidates at various universities (UC Berkeley, CMU, GWU, Illinois,
Nebraska, Rutgers, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and University of
Pune, India.)
Agarwal’s research career spans over 30 years during which he significantly
contributed to the fields of radar antennas and computer testing. In 1985, with
Prof HN Mahabala of IIT, Madras, India, he founded the International Conference
on VLSI Design. He was the general co-chair of the Conference in 1991, and has
chaired its steering committee since 1992. From 1985 to 1987 he was the
editor-in-chief of the IEEE Design & Test of Computers magazine. In 1990, he
founded the Journal of Electronic Testing: Theory and Applications, which is the
first and currently the only archival journal in its area. He is the
editor-in-chief of the journal.
Agarwal received a BSc degree from Allahabad University, Allahabad, India, in
1960, BE degree from University of Roorkee, Roorkee, India, in 1964, ME degree
from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, in 1966, and a PhD
degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1971.n Page(s) 1
