Elaborate on the mobile apps scenario in India today?

Mobile phones have formed an integral part of our daily lives today with millions of people worldwide using it for various reasons that go beyond the taken granted ability to communicate from any place to any part of the world at any time. Businesses use mobile phones to realize significant business benefits by keeping in touch with their customers, suppliers and partners.

Please tell us about the genesis of XBLOCKR. How has the product response been in the market?

XBLOCKR, the flagship product of Aquilonis is a first of its kind mobile application in the Indian market that enables users duck, divert or drop calls discreetly without offending the caller. The added advantage is that users can enable this real-time and simulate an error or 'do not disturb' message to end the call. The interesting application had over 5,000 downloads from app stores in its first week of availability, validating the increasing need for privacy and security in the Indian mobile landscape. XBLOCKR has been validated by 1,00,000 users across 300 types of handsets.

What challenges do you think apps developers face in India? Do you feel that the scenario will change in the future?

For all enterprises, the actual process of application development can be difficult. Developers face challenges like pressing deadlines, ensuring data security, coordinating different development tools, and the training and implementation processes. Applications have been developed using various coding languages such as C/C++, Java, .Net, and others. With a variety of programming options, it's necessary to determine which tools will be most useful for a project. Every mobile content or application you make has to be ported on hundreds of mobile phones. The compatibility of an application with a certain mobile device is the utmost concern. This is because every mobile handset has a certain kind of configuration and the application has to suit the same.

What other innovative products are in the fray for the company? What is the vision now?

Interesting mobile application services done by Aquilonis are:

    * XBLOCKR: An application that helps respect your privacy with the ability to duck, drop and divert unwanted calls and respond with optional appropriate messages.
    * Mobile Security: Protects your mobile devices and data from loss, cyber crime, and other serious security threats.
    * Other Mobile Apps: For all non-smart to smart mobiles.

Aquilonis is focused on developing low cost but innovative mobile applications for both regular mobile consumers and business enterprises in the Indian and world mobile market. The company has developed an exhaustive platform agnostic framework to help companies synchronize their data when they extend their software offerings onto mobiles, PDAs and hand-helds. With a growing mobile market in India, Aquilonis has ambitious plans to develop a national footprint.

Do you think that Indian consumers are ready to pay for apps? If not, in what other ways can app developers make money?

It all depends on the type of app, problem the app is solving and the target market. For example, XBLOCKR is solving a genuine problem by protecting one's mobile phone privacy from telemarketers, unwanted callers as well as spam SMS.  This has become a routine. Users need a strong app that becomes a part of their mobile usage and lifecycle.  In such a case, users are more than willing to pay for the app.  Whereas if we take the scenario of a social media application, then that is something users are psychologically not ready to pay as they are bound to be free.  In this case, the developer company has to find out alternate ways to make money like from advertisements.
