What are some key demands of enterprises in the Asia Pacific region?
Today, enterprises look for a seamless working environment across mobiles, PCs and laptops. It is crucial for organizations to integrate and successfully collaborate with different tools, and access business information anytime and anywhere. Such a demand brings in the need for enterprise mobile applications which are best suited to work in changing dynamics and situations. Organizations are constantly in search of applications which can increase productivity, at reduced costs and which are available on a variety of form factors to suit the needs of the organization. Organizations also have various concerns, including security, data synchronization, device management, and the necessary support for multiple devices. Moreover, most mobile operating systems require a middleware to talk to enterprise applications.

Blackberry is a clear leader in India. What are your plans to become the number one?
We do not comment on competition. The biggest advantage with Windows Mobile devices is that you can buy any style of phone, QWERTY, touch, etc, running Microsoft technology today. The most visible of Microsoft's mobile efforts are via phones running Windows Mobile, and through services like Windows Live, Live Search or MSN Mobile. Windows Mobile brings the power and familiarity of Windows to phones. According to the IDC India tracker, Windows Mobile is a clear leader in the data converged mobile devices segment with a market share of 34.2% ahead of Symbian and Blackberry.

What are your expansion and investment plans in India?
We share a healthy relationship with the seven leading device manufacturers in India namely HTC, ASUS, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Palm and LG. In collaboration with our device partners, we aim to bring multiple form factors for Windows Mobile devices in the near future. Microsoft is building salience for the Windows Mobile brand, in both the retail and online space. The drastic increase in the demand of enterprise applications will certainly push the development of new business solutions for organizations across verticals.

India is yet to become a key market for Microsoft for its mobile communication biz. What are the reasons?
India has always been a key market for Microsoft's mobile communication business. We already have 35-plus devices in India available on Windows Mobile platform. Microsoft has sold over two lakh Windows Mobile devices in India since its launch in 2006 and is gearing to increase its momentum doubly each year.
