Can you tell us about your India operations?
Tellabs India has been in operation for more than a decade. Our installed base of equipment in Indian telecom networks has been consistently growing and so has been our operation here. Tellabs has been engaging directly as well as through partners to deploy and support advanced network solutions.

What is new at the technology front?
Technology is constantly evolving and is a key element of the telecom market. User needs are driving technology advancements. Subscribers need to stay connected and have more and more personalized services. Also, entertainment and telecom are converging, leading to higher bandwidth demands.

YouTube, a video sharing website, consumed more bandwidth in 2007 than the entire Internet used in 2000. As more people watch video via the Internet, this growth will continue. User demand is driving service providers to transform their traditional voice networks into Internet and video networks.

How is India as a market for Tellabs?
The Indian market is growing quickly, and Tellabs has the solutions and services that operators need to advance their networks. Unprecedented growth in the mobile and broadband segments in India presents excellent opportunities for us to meet customer needs.

The introduction of 3G in mobile, which is expected in India very soon, will open up new opportunities for operators to deploy our integrated mobile solution. The solution enables mobile operators to transition from 2G to 3G and beyond. Tellabs is a leading player worldwide in offering end-to-end ethernet mobile backhaul solutions. We have had good success in this segment worldwide, and expect to have the same in India.

We are witnessing a growing interest in PON solutions in India for offering residential broadband services. This is another area where Tellabs is a leading player worldwide.

What are some of your key differentiators from your competitors?
Tellabs has been working closely with leading service providers for more than three decades. Thirty out of thirty-five largest telecom service providers in the world use Tellabs products in their networks. This has helped us gain a good understanding of the carrier-class requirements relating to reliability, redundancy, network management requirements, and quality of service requirements of our customers.
