Pacific Internet has been an established player in India for its
data services. Why have you chosen to enter the voice carrier market now?
We see a huge potential for IP telephony in India. As per an internal
research by Pacific Internet, the IP-based telephony market in India stood at
400 mn minutes in 2006 and we expect it to be about 1bn minutes in 2007. After
studying the market closely we now have launched unique enterprise-grade
IP-based telephone service called PacNet Vocal.
How significant is India as a market for voice solutions to
Pacific Internet?
In view of its huge size and potential, India is the first among the eight
countries in Asia Pacific region where we operate, where the service is being
offered. We want to capitalize on the rapid communications growth in India and
tap the huge potential in the SME segment. We are all excited about the launch
of Vocal, as it marks a milestone in our business strategy of being the region's
premier converged Internet communications partner. This launch will be followed
by similar product launch in Singapore, Philippines and Thailand.

Who will be your primary target consumers?
We are mainly targeting the retail, franchise, manufacturing and call
centres segments across the growing SMB sector in India. For us, any small to
medium sized company that is looking for expanding clientele outside India is a
potential client. We understand the price sensitivity of the SMB market and have
suitably priced PacNet to appeal to the SMB segment.
In what way your solution will stand apart from others in the
market?
We shall stand apart from the crowd in terms of our unique cost-saving
features and quality of service, beside the price point. PacNet Vocal is the
only IP telephony solution in the region that allows businesses to purchase and
maintain virtual telephone numbers from over 400 different destination cities
through its Vocal World Number feature. Using our solution, unique numbers can
be assigned for each extension without having to subscribe to a dedicated line
for each to reduce cost overheads. Calls made to virtual numbers can be
forwarded over the IP network to a designated Session-Initiated Protocol (SIP)
number, incurring only local call charges at Re1 per minute. We also offer free
international calls within the Vocal SIP network without international direct
dialing or local call charges. These are extremely attractive to the SMB segment
as this means huge cost savings.
What is your go-to-market strategy?
We plan to use both the online and off-line marketing strategy to market the
product. The off-line strategy includes marketing through its own sales team,
channel partners and system integrators. We are not restricted to the metros and
are aiming to reach a rich SMB base in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, and for this we
need aggressive channel partnership.
