What
are the security threats for businesses today and how can an enterprise work
towards protection at a policy level?
Enterprises today are at a threat from spyware, viruses, spam, zombie
attacks, denial of services, phishing, pharming, and lots more. These threats
are not standalone; they are interrelated and often cause major downtime at
work. Vulnerable entry points can be plugged in technology as well as processes.
Policies are intrinsic to minimize and eliminate mistakes at the users end. As
part of our solutions in some companies, we simulate spam and observe user
reactions. The reports generated help draw custom policies for people and
departments across the organization.
How
does Trend Micro specifically target the anti-virus needs of SMBs?
After being declared as number one anti-virus in the country, we are now
moving towards further expanding our market. This is happening with more focus
towards SMB space products, which are both cost effective and maintainable,
issues most relevant to them. We have introduced our 'Worry Free Security'
initiative aimed at helping smaller businesses with little or no IT support. The
solution offers all-in-one integrated defence and automatic threat protection
with minimal administration requirements. In case of an outbreak the defence
mechanism auto blocks the computer till the time a cure is found.
It is estimated that
in India, 44% of the total IT spend of Rs 26,100 crore comes from the SMB
segment. This validates our strategy to focus on this segment.
How
does your partnership with HCL Comnet give an extra edge to your business?
We collaborated with HCL Comnet to provide total security infrastructure to
customers. Along with HCL, we have introduced India's first remote anti-virus
management solution called 'Expert Service Offering' (ESO).
The ESO aims to
improve a company's security posture through 24x7 proactive anti-virus
monitoring and management, timely response to a potential outbreak, and
incorporating process environment procedures. Thus, building a more robust and
secure environment. HCL Comnet gives us a large installed base and already
deployed quality infrastructure. 70 people work out of the special Anti-Virus
Expert Service Center in HCL's Noida facility.

Why
did you decide to upgrade the company from a liaison office to a 100%
subsidiary?
Trend Micro had clocked a growth of 122% in 2004-05. With the continuous
y-o-y growth we saw, in September we decided to upgrade our four-year-old India
liaison office to a new entity, Trend Micro India.
The natural evolution
of the company opens up doors for more resources and funds to build capacity
further. Trend Micro has already achieved leadership in Gateway and Server
segments in India, and we are confident that we will capture a substantial share
of the desktop space in less than a year.
