Convergence India 2010: Comviva To Offer Mobile Communication Without a Handset and SIM
Comviva offers various business models, including its managed services model that drives revenues and efficiencies for established and greenfield operators

Comviva, a VAS player, is now extending mobile communications without a handset or SIM. They are also planning online games with 'no download' model, and an uniform access to voice and video. The company has also patented technology on simplified navigation.

The company offers end-to-end mobile VAS solutions in more than 500 mn mobile subscribers globally. Its extensive portfolio of solutions drives content, commerce and community-focused services and revenues for operators, enabling subscribers to interact and access infotainment easily.

Comviva facilitates the expansion of the operator's service portfolio via a unified approach to service delivery, creating applications that can be quickly and easily integrated into the operator's network on a single platform. A lot of breakthrough VAS is being offered to high growth markets worldwide, It has a deep understanding of the challenges facing operators in rapidly growing markets. To address specific objectives, Comviva offers various business models, including its managed services model that drives revenues and efficiencies for established and greenfield operators. With over hundred mobile operator customers in more than eighty countries worldwide, Comviva's solutions reach one in three mobile phone users in emerging markets. Comviva has a global footprint, with customers in high growth markets across five continents.

Milind Pathak, VP, Comviva Technologies says,"We are looking for areas where we can converge traditional and digital media." Given the fact that convergence of technologies has caught up with the industry, an integration of technologies might be the best way to address the needs.

The company has product units as well like MMS( multi messaging services), MBS (multi business services), MLS( multi lifestyle services), MDS(multi device services), and now it even has MCS( multi content services). Among the current trends that the company has seen flourishing, Bulk Messaging is one of them. Says Pathak, "In the last three months, bulk messaging has tripled. From sectors like FMCG, banking, insurance to all are using it in a big way." Post 3G, company has plans to provide services as it believes that VAS content supplemented by increased consumer experience and enhanced graphics will be the perfect platform to produce newer services. Also, stability in mature markets with the decline of 'aged' products(like ringtones) is expected.

According to Informa, Indian VAS market is expected to reach a market value of $13 bn by 2014. Trying to leverage the growing opportunities, Comviva has also eyes on the BoP segment. The mobile commerce solutions and virtual SIM aim to address these needs.

The company is also offering billing solutions to four operators. Alot is also being done for financial inclusion.

Lifestyles along with livelihoods is also one of the major focus of the company. Pathak also says, "Emerging markets is a growth story, and we are exploring options to add to the story." The company is taking initiatives for supporting business and pricing models. Also, initiatives are being taken for the prepaid customer's lifestyle management and managed VAS service offerings.
