DEC in Hyderabad
The Andhra Pradesh government, in collaboration with FXLabs, Suresh Productions, Gemini TV, and DQ Entertainment, has announced its plans to roll out Digital Entertainment City in Hyderabad. The city will facilitate the development and establishment of a world-class infrastructure to encourage the growth of the animation, gaming, television, film, multimedia, radio, music and new media.

Sify Reports $38.3 mn Revenues
Sify Technologies has announced its consolidated US GAAP results for the third quarter ended December 31, 2007. The company has reported revenues of $38.3 mn for the quarter, 2.8% higher than the previous quarter, and 8.7% higher compared to the corresponding quarter last fiscal. Post exceptional items, the net profit after tax for the quarter was $1.55 mn.

42% Growth for Bharti
Bharti Airtel has announced its audited US GAAP results for its third quarter ended December 31, 2007. The consolidated total revenues for the quarter (Rs 6,964 crore) grew by 42% and EBITDA (Rs 2,963 crore) grew by 48% on a y-o-y basis. The net profit was Rs 1,722 crore, a growth of 42% over the previous year.

'Pay By SMS' by Cosmos Bank
Cosmos Bank has partnered with PayMate to offer a first-of-its-kind 'Pay By SMS' service to its customers. Through PayMate's 3,000-plus merchant base, Cosmos Bank customers will now have an easy SMS-based payment solution for various transactions like purchasing flight/movie tickets, car hires, sending donations, and gift vouchers.

Affle Launches SMS2.0
Airtel and Affle have announced the launch of SMS2.0. SMS2.0 enables an interactive and non-intrusive platform on the mobile phone that allows Airtel users to discover a host of relevant content services along with enhanced messaging features. It is unique as it has leveraged the popularity of SMS, and has converged messaging, content, and contextual advertising into one seamless application, which resides as the default SMS application on the customer's handset.

Avaya GlobalConnect Q1 Results
Avaya GlobalConnect has recorded gross sales of Rs 140.4 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2007. The profit before tax (PBT) reported for the quarter stood at Rs 11 crore as compared to the PBT of Rs 14.4 crore for the corresponding period last year.

Idea Selects Oracle's Siebel CRM
Idea has selected Oracle's Siebel CRM applications to deliver a unique customer service experience to its pre- and post-paid mobile subscribers across its entire operations in India. Idea's strategic outsourcing partner, IBM, will undertake the implementation, which, on completion, is expected to address challenges arising from Idea's extensive channel and dealer network and meet its fast-expanding customer base.

Hughes, Comat Sign Contract
Hughes India has signed a contract with Comat Technologies to supply 10,000 broadband satellite terminals to be delivered to rural business centers across multiple states in India. Comat is the premier e-governance organization in India, having more than a decade of experience working with government, public, private and multi-lateral organizations.

Net4 India Enters Security Space
Net4 India has announced its entry into the security services business with new service-Net4 Secure. Net4 Secure is an automated security auditing service for websites and online applications. The company plans to invest Rs 14 crore over the next three years in application- and network-related infrastructure for this service segment. It is an application service that could be availed by a business or individual who wants to be aware of the possible security loopholes in their website or online content and related applications.

Clarity, HCL get contract from BSNL
BSNL has awarded HCL and Clarity a major contract to provide a highly scaleable OSS solution in the form of inventory management, provisioning, and fault management to support all voice services. HCL's contract applies to the southern and eastern zones. HCL's solution will allow BSNL to build a new set of service levels for its customer base.

Tulip's Q3 Net Profit at Rs54 cr
Tulip IT Services reported a net profit of Rs 54.09 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2007, against the net profit of Rs 27.48 crore reported in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The company's net sales stood at Rs 341.5 crore for the quarter against Rs 222.19 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal, registering an increase of 54%.

NETGEAR Selects Ingram Micro
NETGEAR has strengthened its distribution network in India by entering into a distribution agreement with Ingram Micro India. NETGEAR will use Ingram Micro's extensive reseller network to sell the full range of networking and security products across India. The tie-up is a step in maintaining NETGEAR's rapid growth in the market and widening the company's reach across the nation.

Spice Registers 111% Growth
Spice Mobiles has announced a phenomenal growth in its revenue and profits for the quarter ended December 31, 2007. The quarterly revenue for the period has witnessed an astounding growth of 111%, with PBT margins being enhanced by over fifteen times and PAT margins improving eleven times. Spice Mobiles has witnessed phenomenal sales growth. The company's EPS also improved significantly to 0.9.

ProCurve, Siemens Sales Agreement
ProCurve Networking has announced a worldwide sales agreement with Siemens Enterprise Communications. Under the terms of the deal, Siemens will sell voice and data solutions incorporating ProCurve network products and Siemens Voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology. The initial phase of the agreement is now being rolled out in Germany with subsequent implementation planned for the UK, Austria, and Spain.

DigiLink Expands Product Range
DigiLink has further expanded its product range to include state-of-the-art 10G and IPLMS solutions for the Indian market. D-Link has partnered Leviton Network Solutions for 10G over copper solutions and RIT (Israel) to market their entire intelligent cabling Solution. Apart from this, DigiLink also offers a range of products for Power-over-Ethernet.

Bay Talkitec Raises $2.5 mn
Bay Talkitec has raised $2.5 mn from venture capital firm NEA-IndoUS Ventures. The investment will enable the company to further deploy integrated audio and video services in the VAS segment for mobile operators in India and worldwide, starting with South East Asia. Bay Talkitec's value added services delivery platform is an integrated solution to meet present and future requirements of carriers and operators to provide innovative applications.

Veraz Unlocks Speedy RoI
Veraz Networks has successfully migrated two billion minutes of legacy Nortel TDM switch traffic to the Veraz ControlSwitch interconnect solution. Leading long-distance data service providers have replaced their Nortel legacy DMS switches and/or other TDM switches with Veraz's next-generation ControlSwitch, and have seen a total RoI in as little as six months, with ongoing operational expense savings.

VSNL Partners iPass
VSNL has announced that iPass customers traveling to or working in India can now benefit from the addition of more than 350 Tata Indicom Wi-Fi hotspots into the iPass Global Broadband Roaming Network. With the integration of these services, not only do iPass customers get added coverage but the VSNL Partner Hotels, Cafes, etc also benefit from increased roaming usage.

Tech Advisory Group from Intense
Intense Technologies has announced the launch of its CME Technology Advisory Group with the participation of its leading telecom clients. Amrita Gangotra, CIO of Bharti-Airtel, will be the chairperson of Intense's CME Technology Advisory Group. The co-creation initiative, known as ITAG, is mandated to meet twice every year to air, document, and deliberate on emergent client needs and specific problem areas across verticals.

Tata Communications has been launched as a leading provider of the new world of communications, integrating the former VSNL and Teleglobe brands. Tata Communications will leverage its Tata Global Network and unique experience of operating in emerging markets in Asia and Africa to deliver a new world of globally managed communications solutions.

TRAI for Lesser Telecom Tariff
TRAI plans to limit the number of tariff plans offered by telecom operators. The regulator, in a consultation paper, has said that each telecom operator has been permitted to offer 25 tariff plans, but the number has increased to around 100. Transparency in service provision is a prime issue for the authority.

Cisco Fuels SMBs with New Solutions
Cisco has launched Smart Business Communications System designed for the Asia Pacific market, targeted at the small and medium-sized business. It enables SMBs to access information anytime and anywhere. The system provides a method of communicating with customers and employees to help improve service and increase business agility.

Ericsson's Contract with Aircel
Ericsson has announced its first contract for delivery of its hosted consumer push email service to leading Indian operator Aircel. Under the terms of the agreement, Ericsson will have end-to-end responsibility for the consumer push email service. This includes systems integration and management, as well as operation and maintenance. Integration of the service has already begun, and the commercial launch is scheduled for the second quarter of 2008.

Hathway Selects NDS Technology
Hathway has selected NDS XTV Digital Video Recorder (DVR) technology to launch cable DVR, which will dramatically enhance the viewing experience for its subscribers. The new XTV DVR solution will be deployed in 2008, and will give subscribers ultimate control over what they watch and when they watch it.

Alcatel-Lucent's Prepaid Option
Alcatel-Lucent has announced plans to develop and distribute a prepaid option to operators in the wireless market for use with the BlackBerry platform. Customized for BlackBerry smartphones, the real-time, volume-based charging solution will be hosted by Alcatel-Lucent and will seamlessly integrate with operators' existing networks. This option will enable BlackBerry smartphone users to track the minutes and data they have used against the prepaid amount remaining in their account so they can easily refill their account as needed.

Simmtronics on Expansion Spree
Simmtronics Semiconductors has announced the expansion of its footprint across India by setting up sales and service support offices in ten more cities, including several B and C class cities, in the first phase. Besides the existing facilities at Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune, the new offices will be set up in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Ghaziabad, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, and Kolkata.

Quipo Telecom, ByCell sign MoU
Quipo Telecom has announced the signing of an MoU with ByCell Telecommunications for rolling out GSM mobile telecom network in selected regions. This MoU is a great example of beneficial cooperation between ByCell and Quipo. By using Quipo's extensive passive infrastructure network already existing in its circles, ByCell can quickly rollout GSM mobile telecom network.

RCOM Partners CanvasM
Reliance Communications, in a tie-up with CanvasM, has introduced multiplayer mobile games for its customers in India. With this latest initiative, Reliance Communications has opened a new avenue for gaming community in the country to network and challenge each other. A multiplayer mobile game allows customers to compete with online fellow mobile and PC gamers playing the same game.

Ramco Announces Q3 Result
Ramco has continued to maintain positive growth for the third consecutive quarter during the current fiscal. Total Q3 global revenues of Ramco Systems, including revenues from subsidiaries in the US, Switzerland, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Africa, stood at $11.4 mn against $10 mn during the corresponding period last year, registering a 13% growth. For the nine months ended December 2007, the company has posted a global net profit of $4.4 mn compared to a net loss of $4.7 mn in the corresponding period last year.

Syscom Announces New Facility
Syscom has announced significant investment over the next two years in India. The strategic announcement came on the heels of the inauguration of the smart card manufacturing facility located in Noida to support the growing demand for mobile handsets and network infrastructure.
