Huawei, China Mobile Ally
Huawei Technologies has been selected by China Mobile to install a new
generation GSM Base Station on the Mount Everest. The base station will provide
mobile network coverage for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay Team that plans
to reach the summit in time for the Olympic Games. The base station will be
positioned at an altitude of 6,500 m, creating a mobile telecommunications
network that will cover the base camp on the Everest and the main route to the
mountain's summit.
Nimbus Partners with HK Operators
Nimbus Sport has signed agreements with Hong Kong's mobile
operators-Hong Kong CSL, PCCW, and Hutchison Telecommunications-to provide
mobile clips of the Barclays Premier League for the next three seasons
2007/2008, 2009, 2010. The operators would offer near-live video clips,
highlights, match reviews, and previews of each and every Barclays Premier
League match during the term. Subscribers of Hong Kong CSL, Hutchison
Telecommunications and PCCW would be able to access the content through
subscription and pay per view models.
Bhutan Telecom Selects Ericsson
Ericsson has been selected by Bhutan Telecom (BTL) to supply WCDMA/HSPA
network. According to the terms of the agreement, Ericsson will supply an HSPA-enabled
network, including WCDMA radio access equipment, all-IP core and transmission.
Ericsson will also be responsible for network design, deployment, and
integration of BTL's existing GSM network. Rollout will begin in November,
starting in the towns of Thimpu and Paro before going nationwide. The new
network will provide a host of services.
Sri Lanka Telecom Selects EMC
Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has implemented EMC storage and services to
consolidate and manage the vast amount of customer information generated by its
operations, more cost-effectively and with greater reliability. EMC's
information management and storage solutions will also provide robust Business
Continuity to enable non-disruptive operations for SLT. This announcement comes
soon after EMC launched its operations in Sri Lanka in August last year.
BT to Focus on Indian MNCs
Global telecom provider BT is focusing on major Indian multinationals
to boost its revenues. The telecom provider is targeting revenues of $250 mn
from its India operations by 2009. The company would be focusing on the MNCs
which are expanding their operation globally. The company is also planning to
expand network capabilities with Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka by
the end of 2008.
