Testing Interoperality on WiMax
Intel, Nokia, and Nokia Siemens Networks announced that they were
testing interoperability across Intel's forthcoming WiMAX silicon for laptops
and mobile Internet devices, Nokia WiMAX devices and Nokia Siemens Networks
WiMAX infrastructure equipment. Nokia will use Intel's WiMAX silicon product,
which is codenamed "Baxter Peak" and designed specifically for mobile
Internet and consumer electronic devices in its forthcoming Nokia Nseries
Internet Tablets.
Sun Awards Contract to AT&T
Sun Microsystems has awarded a worldwide contract to AT&T, which
will be a key global information technology (IT) and prime network management
and maintenance provider. Sun also selected AT&T as a provider for a virtual
private network (VPN) solution that will integrate Sun locations across the
world. AT&T will provide Sun with worldwide network management and
maintenance services for a wide area network, a local area network, and voice
infrastructure in more than 250 facilities.
Nokia Acquires Enpocket
Nokia has completed the acquisition of Enpocket. With the close of
this transaction, the company is planning to create an exciting business
focusing on advertising, offering a strong suite of services and solutions to
enable brands, publishers, telecom operators, and others to run targeted
advertising and marketing campaigns for mobile audiences. The Nokia vision for
mobile advertising is to build the largest high-quality advertising marketplace.
Comverse MyCall in US Market
Comverse, a subsidiary of Comverse Technology, has launched MyCall Converged
Communications in the US market. MyCall Converged Communications delivers
consumer telephony and messaging services with a unified user interface over
fixed broadband and mobile networks. By combining fixed-mobile telephony with
messaging, MyCall enables operators to deploy consumer telephony and messaging
seamlessly across users' PC, home phone, and mobile device for a unified,
converged customer interface, and offer attractive, cost-effective voice, video
and messaging service bundles.
Alcatel Teams Up with Kyocera
Alcatel-Lucent and Kyocera Wireless, a manufacturer of wireless
phones and devices, have signed an agreement to collaborate on the development
of wireless broadband solutions based on Universal WiMAX technology. The
solutions will incorporate Alcatel-Lucent's WiMAX network infrastructure and a
variety of wireless end-user devices from Kyocera.
Alcatel-Lucent Bags Deal
Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by Brasil Telecom to deploy the
first commercial WiMax networks-using the 802.16e-2005 standard-in the
cities of Sao Paulo, Curitiba, and Porto Alegre. According to the agreement,
Alcatel-Lucent will provide its WiMax solution including base stations, wireless
access controllers, backbone links, Ethernet MXC 9500 links, IP aggregation
equipment, software, and application platforms
Intec Inks Deal with Lebanon's Alfa
Intec has signed a multi-million dollar deal in Lebanon with
government-owned GSM provider Alfa. According to the agreement, Intec will
supply Alfa with its integrated customer care, charging and billing solution, a
scalable business support system to Alfa. Alfa has selected the Intec Mobile
Business Solution, including its Singl.eView Customer Management, Billing and
Financial Assurances modules, which will help Alfa manage the customer care and
billing of its latest value-added, next generation services.
