India Top Outsourcing Hub in Apac
India has emerged as the most popular outsourcing destination in the
Asia-Pacific region followed by China and Singapore, according to a study by
KPMG and the Economist Intelligence Unit. The findings were based on inputs from
305 senior executives in addition to interviews with outsourcing firms and their
service providers. A hefty 55% of those queried outsourced their business to
India while 36% named China and 20% chose Singapore.
TSMG's MoU with Dubai World
The Excellence Center (TEC), a corporate department of Dubai World
Group, has signed a MoU with Tata Strategic Management Group (TSMG) for
collaboration in areas of mutual strategic interests and for providing
management consulting services. As part of the MoU, TSMG will assist Dubai World
and its business units in the areas of strategic planning and performance
improvement, management due-diligence, continuous improvement and re-engineering
and knowledge sharing.
Intelenet Opens Delivery Center in
Chennai
International BPO firm Intelenet Global Services, an HDFC-Barclays
joint venture, has inaugurated its new delivery center at Prince Info Park at
Ambattur in Chennai. This center is Intelenet's second new centre in Chennai
in the last six months, thus increasing the firm's capacity in the city to
1750 seats. The new centre spans across 72,500 sq. ft. and will offer a mix of
customer service, back-office operations and accounting services.
24/7 Customer Partners Bharathiar
24/7 Customer has announced the launch of partnership program with
Bharathiar University to source and develop talent for the BPO industry. As a
part of the program, Nagarajan, co-founder and chief operating officer of 24/7
Customer held a meeting with over 100 placement officers from 108 colleges
spread over Madurai, Thirunelveli, Tiruchy that come under the aegis of
Bharathiar University. They discussed about the career opportunities in BPO for
graduates.
ICICI OneSource Files IPO
ICICI Onesource has filed with SEBI for selling 9.56 crore equity shares
through an initial public offering. This constitutes 23 per cent of the post
issue share capital of the company. The BPO company has also been rechristened
as `Firstsource' While ICICI Group continues to be the single largest
shareholder group, its holding in the company today is at less than 50%. It is
therefore appropriate that the company now establishes a new brand identity of
its own.
BPO Data Leak Concerns IT Ministry
Ministry of IT has prepared a Bill to amend the Information
Technology Act, 2000 to prevent the recent BPO data theft incident. Minister for
Communications and IT, Dayanidhi Maran, has informed the Rajya Sabha that the
government is planning to amend the IT Act. The Bill is intended to provide
framework to strengthen the current provisions pertaining to data protection and
privacy.
Unisys, Wipro Sign Global Alliance
Unisys announced a global alliance with Wipro to establish an
integrated means to execute go-to-market and delivery activities for managed
services. Both will work jointly to provide deskside and hardware-support
services and multilingual service desk services for customers. The alliance has
already yielded a major engagement in which Unisys will be a subcontractor to
Wipro in providing managed services to a Fortune 500 company based in the US.
Siemens Extends BPO Contract with
Barclays
Siemens Business Services have extended its BPO contract with Barclays in a
multimillion-pound deal. This extension to 2008 is the second since the
beginning of the relationship with Barclays in 2000. Siemens is operating areas
of Barclays' retail-banking back office, including account closures, transfer
of funds and administrative processing for direct debit and standing order
instructions. Back-office operations have been transformed through improved
operational efficiencies.
CSC Acquires Datatrac
Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has acquired Datatrac Information
Services, a privately held US government services and solutions provider. The
acquisition will extend CSC's ability to offer comprehensive solutions in
identity management and credentialing, a market segment of strategic importance
to CSC's Federal Sector operation. The new entity will also allow expanding
the company's capabilities in offering customer-contact solutions to clients
across the broad U.S. federal market.
Hero Mindmine to go Overseas
Hero Mindmine, a division of Hero Corporate Services plans to go
overseas. With clients like Accenture, ABN Amro, Wipro-BPO and Progeon, it is
keen to enter the Middle East with a training academy. Hero Corporate Services,
which is a part of the Rs 14,500 crore Hero Group, is the corporate vehicle for
services and knowledge-based initiatives. Hero Mindmine also plans to increase
presence in India. At present, it has 80 career centers.
Brady Corp Opens BPO Units in India
US-based Brady Corporation has said that it has set up its
manufacturing and BPO centers in Bangalore. The new entity, to work under the
name of 'Brady India Private Limited', would manufacture products as well as
provide solutions for the mobile phone and electronic manufacturing industry.
Presence in Bangalore allows Brady to serve customers better, strengthen key
partnerships and extend the reach into the Indian markets.
OnTrac joins fight against attrition in
BPOs
Operations oriented training provider OnTrac has launched one-year
long Xcelerate program that would help in reducing attrition among senior BPO
frontline staff by providing them with developmental opportunities for future
roles. The company would train around 2000 BPO employees under the program
within the next year. "This is yet another first for OnTrac, which has
already successfully addressed the need for developing team leaders through its
star certification program.
