Huawei Technologies expects the value of contracts from Asia Pacific to grow
by 55% to reach $2 bn in 2006. This
was announced at a press briefing at CommunicAsia 2006 held in Singapore.
According to Liu Jianfeng, VP, Huawei Technologies Asia Pacific, “Huawei is
committed to bring in excellent services and technologies to Asia-Pacific
market. Asia Pacific is one of the fastest growing regions in the world for
us.” The company is present in 13
countries in Asia Pacific. This excludes China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and
Hong Kong.
Huawei also announced the launch of datacom products, handsets, and video
conferencing solutions. The company launched the carrier-class metro Ethernet
switches. These will be called Quidway CX series. It is aimed at greater
reliability, security, and easy management of NGN, 3G, broadband access, and
triple play. The company claims the Quidway series would assure protection of
switching in 50 meters so that services are not interrupted
Seeing a big business in the SMB space in conferencing, Huawei also launched
an integrated audio video conferencing solution. The set of solution includes
high definition video terminals ViewPoint8066 and ViewPoint8033, Videophone
ViewPoint8220, and ViewPoint 8210. This incorporates built in multi point
control unit, which is aimed at reducing the operational cost for SMBs. The
system, according to the release, will support PSTN/GSM/CDMA dial-in from up to
six locations and a conference of up to 12 sites in total when combining video
and phone conferences.


To catch up with its aggressive South Korean counterparts like Samsung and LG,
Huawei launched seven 3G handsets U528, U526, and (UMTS dual mode) CDMA models
C2285, C2205, C2281, C5300, C3300. According to the release, the company has
supplied 3G terminals to customers in 70 countries. Huawei also launched what it
claims as the world's smallest and fastest HSDPA.
