The biggest technology trend ever will be the mobile web technology, says a report published by Morgan Stanley. The mobile Internet market will be "at least 2x size of desktop Internet," predicts the study.

Convergence of technology has brought the major applications of the web on mobile. The future of technology will see the mobile outstripping the PCs in the usage of Internet. This development is rapidly being shaped by phone/ iTouch/ iTunes ecosystem. The report believes that they may prove to be the fastest-ramping and most disruptive technology product/service launch the world has ever seen.

India, the second largest wireless market in the world, is also likely to double its mobile Internet users in the next 1-2 years with the launch of 3G services.

The growth of wireless subscribers, who are capable of accessing data services/Internet services, is rapid in India. The number of subscribers, who have subscribed to data services, has grown to 126.97 mn in June 2009 from 75.97 mn in June 2008.

The study explores the reasons for the surge in the mobile Internet market. It validates that the best possible applications that are supporting this growth are 3G, video, VoIP calls, social networking, impressive mobile devices. Expansion of social networking sites and popularization of applications like You Tube are further hiking the usage of Internet on mobile. The combination of smaller handheld devices which can access wireless Internet networks are also allowing the trend to flourish.

The Morgan Stanley report also suggests that although Apple is currently on the top chart of mobile web but sooner Google's Android might catch up. The handful of incumbents like Apple, Google, Amazon.com and Skype appear especially well positioned for mobile changes.

Smartphones “will out-ship the global notebook + netbook market in 2010E and out-ship the global PC market by 2012E,” says one of the major findings of the report. Other key take away of the report is that emerging markets have material potential for mobile Internet user growth. Low penetration of fixed-line telephone and already vibrant mobile value-added services which means that for many users and SMEs, the Internet will be mobile.

future prospects of mobile Internet market will move at a brisk pace. There are many opportunities in this segment of telecommunication industry which will pay dividends in the coming years. Given the fact in the increase in the number of applications that are being supplemented by the technical innovations, the environment will be quite receptive for the growth of mobile Internet.
