In the time of recession, it is natural that the enterprises are looking at ways and means to reduce the capex and opex. Besides, communications have emerged as a critical part of the ICT strategy of any enterprise. In this context, Managed Communication Services have emerged as a new alternative in increasing the efficiency of the enterprises that are constantly collaborating 24x7.

Alcatel Lucent is all set to launch Managed Communication Services (MCS) in the Indian market soon. The company is in advanced talks with the operators to launch these services. MCS is conceptually similar to managed service but for the enterprises. It helps the enterprises in outsourcing the entire communications network and management, thus reducing the capex.

“We would be offering a packaged deal to the enterprises. The end customer won't have to manage and it is opex for the customer from the day one,” explains Shekhar Agarwal, director-enterprises and verticals-South Asia, Alcatel Lucent.

The company is going to focus on the mid-sized and large multi-location enterprises like retail, BFSI and hospitality industry.

Initially the marketing would be done by vendor but going forward different business models are likely to evolve in this segment.

MCS are using network based capabilities as well as premises-based capabilities. The prime focus of the service providers and vendors, as of now, is to drive the MSC's with the low cost and facilitate long term engagements. As more and more of Indian enterprises are going global, the enterprises are becoming conglomerates of thousand of employees and communication solutions have become more and more business critical.

Enterprises are looking for options that will help in reducing costs and managing the man-power utilizing the effective communications. Market forecasts point to rapid growth over the next five years -- 10 to 15 percent per year -- reaching approximately 20 percent of total service provider business with enterprises.

The USP of the this service is that it offers cost effectiveness and goes a long way in integrating enterprise mobility and connectivity that the various enterprises are likely to witness after their implementation.

The innovations in applications and techniques will be the key driver of the MCS. The quality of service that the organizations will receive will be the catalyst of growth in the coming times for the MSC's. Keeping the IT management costs under control and ensuring a high ROI will a challenge for the vendors.

Companies like Alcatel Lucent are constantly innovating to suit the ever changing needs of the customers giving the organizations freedom to concentrate on their core competencies.

MSC's will redefine the definition of effective communication through infrastructural capabilities, simplify working together and will give a new user paradigm to the industry.
