A segment which continues to record a good growth even in the time of recession is data center segment. Despite the sweeping global recession which still continues its onslaught on the businesses across verticls, data center is receiving investments to improve performance and reliability. This is reflected in the survey commissioned by the structured cabling major, CommScope.
The respondents for the survey were the people with responsibility for their organizations’ data centers. Over 730 IT professionals from 54 countries responded to the Global Data Center Survey questions on trends in data center equipment, design and future development.
According to the new Global Data Center Survey commissioned by CommScope, with contributing sponsors Brocade, Eaton and Intel, almost a third (32%) of all organizations surveyed worldwide are planning or building new data centers, while more than four out of five (83%) existing data centers continue to receive investment for infrastructure and technology projects.
George Brooks, director, Enterprise Data Centers, CommScope, says, “It is clear that data centers are viewed as mission critical, and organizations continue to invest accordingly to ensure quality, performance and intelligence are successfully supporting business goals.” DS Nagendra, General Manager – LAN, Nexans, says, “We have seen that though there has been a need to cut cost, critical applications that the enterprise needs has never been compromised. Data centers are considered as one of the critical investments for the enterprise and we have seen that the CXOs have ensured not to compromise on it.”
In the backdrop of the current economic environment, almost two thirds (65%) of respondents were required to demonstrate a specific return on the investment before their data center projects were approved. It shows the kind of significance it has assumed in the present time.
