- The key differentiator is its strength of resource pool, products, and focus.
| | At a time, when the corporations of old establishment are atthe edge of the Darwinian struggle for new growth areas, BPL has taken the leadin adapting to the unfolding New Economy. The analogy to the BPL brand today canbe drawn with the next-generation network platforms—which promises to bescalable, flexible, and robust. The "C" Spindle Though the term convergence assumes no clear definition, itis mostly associated with the ability of different network platforms to carryessentially similar kinds of services, or the coming together of consumerdevices such as the telephone, television, and PC. Today, BPL is perhaps the only brand in the country, whichhas the ability to affect convergence wholesomely—as a service provider, as asolution provider, and as a consumer appliances and electronics vendor. Convergence has its risks. Apparently telecom looks as amulti-million opportunity. But the issue is of core competency and customer pullto stay in the business holds the sway. That is why we have some big namesentering the fray on one hand, and others restraining themselves on the other. And if we take a look at the scene today, BPL and Bharti have made remarkableprogress. The reason is they understand the consumer mind-set as well as thebusiness.
The overall C-strategy for BPL is consolidation—Consumersand Convergence. Its consolidation has been because of its drive to satiate theconsumer constantly. The most significant component of BPL is its understandingof who the new-age consumer. BPL has made a significant transition from the pre-Ninetiesimage of a manufacturing-oriented company to a brand with multiple services, products, and solutions. And has in a systematic manner transformed itself intoa brand that excels in all forms of convergence—Internet, home PCs and netappliances, mobile telephony and broadband business, and solutions for theenterprises and carriers. This is the second consolidation. Page(s) 1 2
