Virtual Network Operator (VNO) major Vanco has launched a unique portal called VancoNet Direct. The Asia Pacific launch happened recently in Hong Kong, and the portal is touted as the first such initiative globally that makes for simplified data access. The portal enables the user to design, purchase and maintain data networks from an array of network service providers spread across the world. For instance, VancoNet Direct in its ambit has nearly 7,000 MPLS points-of-presence (PoPs) and over 15,000 DIA PoPs from across 161 countries. According to the company, this is the only web portal that provides a huge choice to enterprises in managing their telecommunications infrastructure. The portal will enable telecom carriers, cable companies, systems integrators and large enterprises to purchase competitively priced data networks from the convenience of the desktops. The portal becomes significant for Vanco, as it will enable the company to fully leverage its VNO model.

Wayne Churchill, CEO, VancoNet Direct

What is Net Direct?
Net Direct is a portal (http://www.vancoNetDirect.com) that provides a huge choice of telecom infrastructure for designing, purchasing and maintaining data networks globally. Vanco does not own any fixed network assets, its Virtual Network Operator model allows users to purchase the service they require from a range of operators. But the key aspect is that the users interact only with Vanco and not with the service providers. To use the services offered, users need to register in the Net Direct portal and opt for the type of service they want. Then the portal lists the multiple choices and pricing information to the user, who can pick the desired network.

Target segments:
Asset based carriers, SIs and large enterprises that have their own networks, or any company that wants to purchase network infrastructure.

Says Allen Timpany, CEO, Vanco, "There are only a few carriers that have the global reach but almost everyone has multinational customers. With VancoDirect, telecom providers can now offer their customers' additional network capability on a global scale at a competitive price." Sources in the company said that Net Direct would enable customers to quickly and easily custom design the optimum data network for their requirements. The target market for this service is any company that needs to purchase network infrastructure.

Reflecting on the unique advantages of Net Direct, Wayne Churchill, CEO, VancoNet Direct says, " The cost of networks for enterprise customers is decreased and service quality improved by using high quality local infrastructure with greater density than is provided today by a handful of international carriers. For instance, VancoNet Direct can provide greater DSL access to the Internet as well as MPLS coverage than any other network operator in the world."

The VancoNet Direct portal based on its VNO model assumes significance in the light of numerous challenges faced by enterprises in managing their networks. For instance, enterprises are rapidly globalizing and it is economically impossible for an asset-based carrier to own physical infrastructure across the world. A classic case in point is Shell Petroleum which has approximately 2,000 telecom agreements across the world. In this existing backdrop, Net Direct is expected to offer massive choice to enterprises in managing their networks.

Established in 1988, Vanco invented the VNO model. The company says that the VNO model enables a highly agile and flexible networking sourcing approach. Vanco provides its services through contracts with asset-based carriers and manages customer networks in 152 countries.
