The telecommunication services industry continued its growth in FY 2007-08. The boom in Indian economy, further removal of entry barriers to access mobile phones, customers' appetite to enjoy value-added services, etc, fuelled growth. Recent government policies which created an ecosystem of affordable connectivity across the country for the common man, was also one of the catalysts.

During FY 2007-08, the telecom services revenue has jumped from Rs 107,681 crore to Rs 130,561 crore, registering a 21.3% increase.

The total wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA, and WLL(F)) base stood at around 261 mn, with an addition of around 104.1 mn subscribers. The teledensity for wireless is now at more than 22%, which contributes a large chunk to the overall teledensity of over 25%.
