Mukesh Ambani put it aptly while remembering his father, "People will remember you after you are gone not for your money or your power, but because of what you have left behind." Dhirubhai Ambani once wondered why can't Indians make a telephone call at the same price as that of a postcard. He was thought to be too optimistic at that time. But as time passed by, it became a reality. Today, Indian telecom tariffs are the lowest in the world. A lot of credit goes to Dhirubhai Ambani and his company Reliance Infocomm (Now renamed as Reliance Communications). Dhirubhai Ambani used to say, "Make the tools of information and communication available to people at an affordable cost. They will overcome the handicaps of illiteracy and lack of mobility." This was at the back of Mukesh Ambani's mind when he started laying 60,000 route kms of a pan-India fibre optic backbone.
