Mahendra Nahata has served as the President of TEMA, the
chairman of Telecom Committee of PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the VP
of Himachal Pradesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and also as the
co-chairman of Telecom Committee of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce
& Industry (FICCI).
Nahata has played a pivotal role in developing a vast base
for the indigenous telecom equipment manufacturing in the country. He has been
instrumental in providing telecom equipment at cost effective prices by way of
in-house R&D and alliances with IIT Chennai and IIS Bangalore.
Nahata is one of the few people in the industry who is responsible to make
India a 'Technology centre' by promotion of indigenous technology and
creation of IPRs in the country. Ministry of Human Resource has also appreciated
his initiatives and deemed him fit to be a member of the board of governors of
CSIR, IIT and IIIT. Recently, he was also awarded the "Telecom Man of the
Millenium" award for his entrepreneurial skills and initiatives in the
telecom sector.
