Ashok Jhunjhunwala's the man behind the cost effective
indigenous telecom technology, corDECT WLL. JhunJhunwala received his B Tech
degree from IIT Kanpur in 1975, and his MS and PhD degrees from the University
of Maine, USA in 1977 and 1979, respectively. From 1979 to 1981, he was with
Washington State University as assistant professor. Since 1981, he has been
teaching at IIT Madras. Currently, he leads the Telecommunications and Computer
Networks group (TeNeT) at IIT Madras. This group is closely working with the
industry in the development of number of Telecommunications and Computer Network
Systems.
Awarded the prestigious Padma Shri title by the Govt. of India, Jhunjhunwala
is perhaps the only serving academician in the country to have a place on the
boards of large corporations like BSNL, Polaris Software, HTL, Shyam Telecom,
Tejas Networks and Sasken Communications, apart from the directorships in the
TeNet group companies.
