He dabbled in everything related to telecom-manufacturing antennas, to
setting up a VSAT company to providing fixed and cellular services in Rajasthan.
Rajiv Mehrotra set up to lead design, development, manufacturing, and
installation way back in 1976 and became the oldest specialized company in this
domain. He drew his inspiration from the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, when
he started manufacturing EPBX and telephone receivers in 1986 followed by the
manufacture of wireless communication equipment for rural connectivity. He went
on to become the first GSM operator in Rajasthan when the services (under the
brand Oasis) was launched in 1995. This was followed by the entry of the company
into fixed line business in Rajasthan. Recently, Shyam has got license to
provide building wireless connectivity in the UK.
