As the chairman and managing director of MTNL Rajagopalan
instilled a competitive spirit among his staff and did a major rehauling in
terms of modernizing MTNL's services. Under his guidance the intelligent
network (IN) services got deployed and services like managed data network
services got operational.
He led the drive to digitize and optimize the network through
optical networking, and new transmission technologies like SDH got more intense.
During his tenure, MTNL became the first Indian company to list on the NYSE.
He was also chairman of the Task force constituted under the study group formed
by the department of company affairs in 2000.
