Santanu Das is the president, CEO and chairman, TranSwitch
Corporation, a company he founded along with three others. Das graduated in
electrical engineering from Jadavpur University in Calcutta. After receiving a
doctoral degree in electrical engineering from Washington University (St Louis)
in 1973, he started his career at ITT Corporation in Ohio and was soon absorbed
by ITT Advanced Technology Center in Connecticut. Here, he was responsible for
development of VLSI-based telephone switching systems, advanced technology
development and workstation-based CAD systems.
He is a mentor, guide, teacher, and friend not only to his
children, but also to his employees' children, who are guaranteed challenging
summer jobs at company headquarters in Shelton, Connecticut, or at an
international branch, such as the one in New Delhi.
He has instituted a scholarship in Cachar (Assam). Das also
maintains an orphanage "Khel Ghar" and regularly helps a cancer
hospital in Kolkata by providing funds and also upgrading equipment.
