Much before the Indian companies went global, TCIL was making a
larger part of its revenues from overseas by selling telecom turnkey services in
Saudi Arabia to Ghana; Qatar to Congo; Malawi to Zimbabwe. All this was the
vision of a single man, Yogeshwar Lal Aggarwal, the then CMD of TCIL, who
decided to look beyond Indian borders.
Highly energetic, a relentless worker and an accessible
patriarch, Aggarwal joined HFCL after retiring from the government service and
in no time grew its turnkey business earning huge revenues by providing turnkey
services. "I will work for two more hours" he once told
VOICE&DATA, when asked what he would love to do in his leisure time.
Apart from an astute business manager able to sense
opportunities, Aggarwal is a fine mentor as well as an organization builder. He
is the first president of Pacific Telecom Council, and has acted as a leading
think tank on telecom policy issues in India.
